For many years, our work began with a simple but powerful mission — to strengthen our local community by supporting the organizations and people who dedicate their lives to serving others.

 

We were first known as the Cape Coral Community Foundation, created to support charitable efforts in our region and to bring people together around a shared commitment to community impact. As our work expanded beyond city boundaries, so did our vision. We became known simply as The Community Foundation, reflecting a broader role in supporting nonprofit organizations and community initiatives across Southwest Florida.

Over time, however, it became clear that the nonprofit sector needed something more.

 

Nonprofit organizations were not only seeking funding — they were seeking a stronger voice, greater recognition, and a place where their leadership, sacrifice, and innovation would be valued.

 

We saw that behind every successful nonprofit is a leader who carries enormous responsibility, often without recognition. We also saw that the future of philanthropy would not be defined only by those who distribute funds, but by those who elevate ideas, encourage leadership, and create space for honest conversation about the challenges facing our communities.

 

That realization led to the next step in our evolution.

 

Today, we are proud to be known as Charitable Community.

 

This name reflects our commitment to something larger than any single city, organization, or funding source. It represents a growing network of nonprofit leaders, philanthropists, and community partners who believe that the people doing the work deserve to be recognized, supported, and heard.

 

Charitable Community exists to strengthen the nonprofit sector by:

While many organizations focus on funding programs, our focus is on strengthening the people who make those programs possible.

 

Through leadership forums, community gatherings, and our annual honors recognizing outstanding nonprofit leadership, we are building a culture where service, innovation, and courage are celebrated — and where those who lead with purpose know their work matters.

 

Our journey from the Cape Coral Community Foundation, to The Community Foundation, and now to Charitable Community reflects more than a change in name.

 

It reflects our belief that the future of philanthropy belongs to those who are willing to lead it.

 

And we are proud to stand with the leaders who are shaping that future every day.
