Michael Chatman

Michael Chatman is a purpose-driven executive with over two decades of leadership in philanthropy, social innovation, and civic engagement. As President and CEO of The Community Foundation, he leads with an abundance mindset—championing not just what the foundation owns, but who it represents.

Under Michael’s leadership, the Foundation has become one of the most civically powerful and connected philanthropic institutions in Southwest Florida. Representing 5,719 nonprofits and catalyzing over $4.15 billion in annual impact, the Foundation serves as a hub for generosity and a platform for transformative community leadership.

A graduate of Harvard University’s programs in Social Entrepreneurship and AI for Business, Michael brings deep expertise in leveraging emerging technologies to solve social challenges. He advises mission-driven organizations on how to harness artificial intelligence to increase efficiency, future-proof fundraising, and scale their impact—ensuring AI works not just for profit, but for purpose.

Michael holds a master’s degree in philanthropy from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota, an executive leadership certificate from Harvard Business School, and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Missouri State University.

Recognized nationally as a thought leader and speaker, Michael is known for his strategic vision, systems-level thinking, and unwavering commitment to community transformation. His leadership reflects a new kind of power—one rooted in connection, collaboration, and the belief that real change scales through networks, not just assets.
